Many homes built in the Post War II Era have amazing charm that still carries on and lives well for us today. Like today?s modern homes many homes built in this era between 1950's and 1970 have clean lines, open living spaces, and lots of natural light. Maybe I was born in the wrong decade but these homes just speak to me. I have more than once knocked on a door that I just couldn't walk away from without seeing the inside often to the bewilderment of the homeowner but I know I'm not the only one afflicted. There are several of us mid-century architecture lovers who can?t pass by a home without studying every line and detail. There is an art to being able to see past orange shag carpeting and several layers of hideous wallpaper to see the gem underneath. If you have the vision these homes are diamonds in the rough just waiting for the right homeowner to come along and restore their glory.

Surprisingly several of these homes have green features that might possibly even been unintentional at the time of construction. Smaller footprints consume less energy, depending on house placement lots of windows can take advantage of passive solar. Many of todays green building products blend seamlessly with these mid-century homes. Items such as cork floors (sustainable, quiets sound, good insulators), bamboo floors counters and cabinets (be sure to check for formaldehyde-free products, glass countertops and tiles look perfect in this style of home.

Seeing to the core of the architecture you may find post and beam ceilings, mahogany paneling, and unbelievable curb appeal that is original from the vanilla same old construction you see today. These homes definitely become a part of you as you customize every detail from the faucets, to the garden and even the house numbers. It absolutely becomes a passion.

For new construction on Modern Homes the possibilities are endless and growing by the day. As more modern green features become more popular the price will decrease making building your modern, eco-friendly home more affordable each day. Not only will you enjoy the environment you create in your new home but you can also reap the rewards from having such an innovative and efficient home that stands out from the ordinary if you should decide to sell later.

If you are interested in this type of home it would be my pleasure to help you find the mid-century home of your dreams!
